Treatments to Tackle Acne

Struggling with acne, blemish-prone or oily skin and not sure where to start with treating it? We’ve got you covered! We offer a wide range of clinically-proven treatments to improve acne and reduce further breakouts, as well as maintenance treatments to keep it at bay.

What is acne?

Acne is a skin condition that’s characterised by spots and breakouts, which typically occur on the face, neck, chest and back. The types of acne that can curse our complexions are pretty varied, including comedones (whiteheads and blackheads), papules and cysts. And these breakouts are either non-inflammatory or inflammatory, with the latter being more severe.

What causes acne?

Acne appears when pores (the small holes in the skin which secrete sebum and sweat) become blocked with excess oil and dead skin cells, causing comedonal acne. If these blocked pores become infected with bacteria, they can turn into inflamed spots. People who have naturally oily skin are more likely to develop acne due to the acne-causing bacteria thriving on the high levels of sebum.

What are the triggers?

While there are only 4 main causes of acne (oil, dead skin cells, inflammation & bacteria), there are many triggers that effect each individual differently. These include external, environmental and lifestyle factors including dirty pillow cases, pollution, stress, dirty phones, gut bacteria, high GI foods, a damaged skin barrier, high skin PH and comedogenic make up to name a few.

What treatments are effective at treating acne?

The good news - if you're struggling with acne, we're here to help with a range of in-clinic treatments and a personalised at-home skincare plan! We offer a range of medical grade, clinically-proven protocols that are effective in both the treatment and management of acne.

Algae Peel

The DÉCAAR Algae Peel Facial is a combination of natural ingredients based on Algae, Herbs, and Perfluorodecalin. It works differently to any other skin resurfacer from the inside out, from the basal layer to the surface. It accelerates skin cell turn over from 4-8 weeks to an outstanding 72 hours.

It works biologically, providing a 100% safe treatment process working from the inside out. The micro-fibres of the peeling powder penetrate the skin, increasing the blood flow and production of new cells - reducing sebum production and fighting bacteria to combat acne breakouts.

The combination of natural ingredients is considered to be the most advanced and effective treatment on the market for the most common skin problems including acne, blemished and oily skin. It is even suitable for the most sensitive skin.

Chemical Peels

A chemical peel uses a chemical solution to remove layers of skin, revealing youthful, blemish-free skin underneath. Chemical peels can reduce or improve acne and acne scarring. Different chemicals determine the depth of your peel and type of skin condition treated.

The most effective type of chemical peel for treating acne generally contains glycolic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid, or mandelic acid.

LED Light Therapy

LED light therapy is a painless, chemical-free and non-invasive treatment that uses different coloured lights to target a range of skin concerns.

When it comes to acne, blue light is generally the best choice. There are several blue LED light therapy benefits, including the fact that it’s antimicrobial and can kill acne-causing bacteria. Blue light therapy also has an anti-inflammatory effect which is great for minimising breakouts and the treatment also helps shrink the sebaceous glands, resulting in less sebum secretion - therefore reducing break outs. It can be used for active acne and as a preventative measure against future breakouts, which makes it a great add-on for the long term management of acne-prone skin.

Champagne Enzyme Facial

The iS Clinical Foaming Enzyme Facial produces a luxurious foaming activity, while the bio-active ingredients exfoliate and deep cleanse the pores to reveal a polished and radiant complexion. A combination of the highest-grade pharmaceutical strength complexes and serums are incorporated.

Foaming Enzyme Facial is perfect for treating all acne grades, but it is particularly gentle yet effective choice when it comes to treating highly inflamed acne that is not yet a candidate for more intensive treatments. Individuals with these acne grades may also be on medications that would  additionally be a contraindication to other treatments available, so it’s a great entry point if you are new to skin treatments but would like to start tackling your acne.

We are passionate about a holistic approach to treating acne - creating healthier habits and lifestyles for healthy skin from the inside out, as well as creating a targeted treatment plan in clinic. To get started on your skin health journey, book a consultation here.
