One of our most popular treatments in the Cockermouth clinic is the removal of moles, skin tags, Millia and other skin lesions via cryotherapy. The fast, safe and relatively pain-free treatment to remove benign skin lesions even in the most delicate of areas, helping to restore your confidence....

What is Cryotherapy?

CryoPen is a state of the art treatment that uses extreme cold nitrous oxide, or cryotherapy, to painlessly and safely destroy unwanted, benign and superficial lesions on the surface of the skin, such as warts, skin tags, verrucae, milia, cherry angiomas, scars, and resistant hyperpigmentation.

How does it work?

Cryotherapy is minimally invasive treatment of controlled destruction of unwanted tissue by the application of extreme cold. Cryotherapy is used to treat different types of lesions on the skin such as skin tags, warts and many more, using an ultra-cold jet of high-pressure N₂O to freeze benign human tissue.

The CryoPen applicator is designed for precision and allows a focused gas flow that targets only the lesion and provides pinpoint accuracy during the treatment - allowing professionals to work with millimetre precision for removing all benign skin lesions with no more collateral damage to healthy surrounding tissue.

Effective treatments

CryoPen offers a comfortable, quick and precise treatment with no stress and no downtime - it’s minimally invasive, so you can have your appointment and go about your usual day. It’s also safe to use on delicate skin or around the eye area, which is a common area of concern with milia, skin tags and more.

Treatments can be as quick as a couple of minutes for a basic skin tag with results shown in as little as 1 treatment depending on the lesion, we usually recommend course of treatments to achieve optimum results. There is also no after-care needed for treatments, but the healing process may take up to 6 weeks depending on the lesion treated.

Removing skin tags

One of the most common skin lesion is a skin tag - a small growth that hangs off of your skin, very common and harmless.

During treatment with CryoPen, a mild white frost should form evenly over the lesion. A successful endpoint is indicated by a mild, white raised blister covering the entire lesion. Immediately after the treatment, the tissue turns red-ish coloured and may have a of zone inflammation due to interstitial bleeding. Skin tags typically disappear within 14 days of treatment. You may see an immediate improvement of the skin tag, then after some time to heal it will show considerable improvement over time.

Treating milia

Milia are very small, raised, pearly-white or yellowish bumps on the skin, each are usually about 1 or 2 millimetres. It is a type of tiny skin cyst filled with a protein called keratin. They are most often seen on the skin around the cheeks, nose, eyes and eyelids, forehead and chest.

During the treatment to remove Millia, a mild white frost should form evenly over the lesion. After thawing, the tissue may turn red-ish in colour before healing leaving fresh skin underneath.

Removing benign moles

CryoPen is a quick and painless way to remove benign moles by freezing them. The NHS is a regular user of cryotherapy; however, cosmetic procedures such as skin tags, benign mole removal, warts, cherry angiomas, etc are no longer treatable through the NHS, so this is a great option if you have a benign mole that you want removed for cosmetic reasons. Please note, you will need to have a GP check the mole to ensure they are not suspicious before treating.

Other lesions & blemishes

CryoPen can also remove benign and superficial lesions on the surface of the skin such as warts, verrucae, cherry angiomas and resistant hyperpigmentation. Please note – some lesions may require a GP consent letter prior to treatment. Please ask for guidance or book a consultation via the link below for advice on your treatment plan.
